The Science Behind Scar Treatment and Scar Reduction

Dermaheal Removes Scars

Scar treatment begins with the Dermaheal Regiment, start scar tissue healing now! For near scar less healing of old scars (still red and/or raised) and new scars begin applying Dermaheal Rapid-Heal cream with the Dermaheal Silicone sheeting immediately after the wound has closed, stitches or staples removed. Four feet of our cotton hypoallergenic tape is included with every silicone sheet order. Our tape is specifically designed to be changed daily without injuring the scar. Dermaheal is most effective if applied as a daily scar treatment. Dermaheal promotes the healing process resulting in softer, smoother, and flatter scars while restoring skin to a more normal texture and color. What's more, Dermaheal scar treatment relieves the burning and itching that so often accompanies scarring and other skin disorders. Dermaheal is painless, easy to apply, economical and approved for use on children only one sheet is needed for the duration of scar treatment.

The physiology of hypertrophic and keloid scars is complex and remains confusing to both scientists and clinicians alike. Scar tissue healing is a deceptively complex process that involves multiple interactions between numerous cell types. If the skin is damaged, whether through injury, surgery, burns, acne, or other trauma, the body naturally tries to repair this damage. When intercellular signaling with growth factors becomes imbalanced and adhesive bio-molecules become over-abundant, the scar tissue healing process may become interrupted, and keloid and hypertrophic scars may form. Thus, such scars represent an abnormal medical condition that can only be corrected through a change in the physiology causing them. (For more information on the science behind scar formation and scar removal, see our scar treatment resources page.)

Because of our limited understanding of the physiology of these types of scars, effective evidence-based scar treatments available for keloid and hypertrophic scar reduction are very limited. Surgical scar removal results in a reappearance of the problem scar 95% of the time. Studies show that when silicone sheeting is used after surgical scar removal, the problem scar does not return 95% of the time. During scar treatment, Dermaheal pure silicone sheeting is thought to stimulate repair of the dysfunctional top layer of skin covering hypertrophic and keloid scars, as well as decreasing the over-adhesive content found in their matrix. The way Dermaheal balances the complex cellular physiology to promote the proper scar tissue healing of the problem scar may be indirect and mysterious, but the evidence of its effectiveness and results are clear.

Dermaheal is scientifically proven to be the #1 Scar Treatment

Topically applied Dermaheal silicone sheeting has been shown to be effective in over 50 studies for scar therapy and scar prevention for old scars (still red and/or raised) and new scars. An international panel of scientists and experts on scarring, reviewing all the studies and literature on available scar treatments, determined silicone sheeting to be the only non-surgical evidence-based scar treatment for scar management and scar prevention. None of the other so-called scar treatment (creams, gels or gel sheeting) on the market claiming to provide effective scar treatment or scar removal have been shown to be effective in scar reduction.

What Scars will Dermaheal Treat?

Dermaheal works on all unhealed old scars (still red and/or raised) and new scars. Dermaheal Application

Scar treatment with Dermaheal is convenient, reusable and recommended for daily use. Simply place Dermaheal silicone sheeting either side up directly over your scar. The Dermaheal silicone sheet should overlap your entire scar by 1/4 inch (1 cm). Dermaheal is held in place using our hypoallergenic adhesive tape supplied with our sheeting. It comfortably fits under clothing (socks and sports bra), medical devices (splints and braces) and bandages.

Dermaheal HyperHeal Crème is recommended to be used in conjunction with Dermaheal Silicone sheeting. Apply the silicone sheeting 24 hours per day, based on comfort you may remove the sheeting for 1-2 hours per day. When treating facial areas silicone sheeting can be worn only during sleep time, this will extend healing time but will work as well over an extended period of time. When cream and sheeting are used in combination you simply apply Dermaheal Hyper-heal Creme lightly in the morning and evening to scar then apply Dermaheal Silicone sheeting on top of scar.
